Under the Golden Rainbow
In 1866, at 3 years old, Mathew Wech arrived in Auckland with his parents on a sailing ship "The Liverpool", lured to New Zealand from Bohemia by the Government's promise of land for immigrants looking for a fresh start.
With a growing family of his own, Mathew acquired Crown Land in Warkworth in 1895, and later he added an adjacent block in McKinney Road, before drowning in a tragic accident at the wharf in Puhoi in 1920. The Wech family were farmers and Clydesdale horse breeders, and 102 McKinney Road is a subdivision of a large block of land at the top of the hill, bought by his son in 1936.
Nothing much has changed since the 1980s when the family chose the very best place to build a rambling but functional split stone three-bedroom home of around 265 sqm with plenty of storage. There is a distant view of Mahurangi Harbour and on the property are 4 large watertanks, a separate 120 sqm garage/workshop with a service pit and an electric lift to loft storage, a lean-to boatshed and a tractor shed with concrete floors, woodsheds, old fig trees and rich vegetable gardens.
With 17,615 sqm of prime, gently sloping north facing land in the Large Lot Zone, subdivision into 4,000 sqm lots can now be investigated.
This magnificent property has been held by the Wech family for over 85 years, and as a deceased estate it is now reluctantly offered for sale as is. This is the opportunity of a lifetime - viewing is by appointment.
